MILESTONES

1950’s

1955 – Incorporated and registered with the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission of its first office at Philight Inc. building at Tanduay St., Manila.

1957 – Entered into licensing agreement with Reichhold Chemicals Inc. (RCI), one of the world’s largest producers of synthetic resins. The agreement last for 25 years.

1958 – Started manufacturing operations in Barrio Ugong, Pasig Rizal, with the production of alkyd resins and varnishes in K-1 fo surface coatings, paints and printing inks, and of urea, phenol, and melamine formaldehyde wood adhesives in K-2 for plywood and woodworking.

1959 – Pioneered the production in the Philippines of polyvinyl acetate/acrylicemulsions and epoxy resins for paints, adhesives, textile and leather finishing, and of unsaturated polyster resins for fiberglass-reinforced plastics.

1960’s

1960 – Started backward integration into refined glycerine for surface coating resins, textiles, food, cigarettes and pharmaceuticals.

1961 – Introduced backward integration into formalydehyde for synthetic resin adhesives. This was a pioneering undertaking in Southeast Asia.
1962 – Started the production of foundry resins for shell molding, brake and clutch linings

1964 – Started the production of sulfuric acid for detergents, textiles, steel, batteries and others.
– Established the Davao depot for the manufacture of plywood adhesives.

1965 – Started the production of aluminum sulfate for water purification, pulp and paper, and others

1969 – Completed the installation of the manufacturing facilities in barrio Nahalinan, Jasaan, Misamis Oriental, which produced urea and formaldehyde wood adhesives for the Mindanao plywood industry
– Obtained pioneer status from the Philippine Board of Investments for the production of methanol, the first such incentive granted by the BOI to the chemical industry.

– Obtained pioneer status from the Philippine Board of Investments for the production of phthalic anhydride

1970’s

1970 – Established the Philippine Construction & Marine Works (PICMW) as a wholly-owned subsidiary to merge the mechanical engineering groups of Philight Inc and Resins Inc. to further engage in plant design, equipment fabrication, construction, shipbuilding and repair of tugboats and barges for the bulk delivery of plywood adhesives
– Started the commercial production in Pasig of dioctyl phthalate plasticizer for PVC fabrication

1972 – Set-up a caustic soda plant in Pasig, using soda ash and lime as raw materials

1973 – Started the production in Pasig of phthalic anhydride for surface

coating resins, unsaturated polyster resins and dioctyl phthalate plasticizers, and exports to Asia, Australia and the USA.
– Started up the methanol plant in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental

1974 – Obtained BOI export producer status for alkyd resins

1975 – Obtained BOI export producer status for plywood adhesives

1976 – Appointed by Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha Ltd. Of Japan as the exclusive distributor of Tipaque Titanium dioxide in the Philippines
– Established Chemserve Inc. as a wholy-owned subsidiary for packaging and specialty adhesives, and other specialty chemicals

1977 – Established Cheminsurance Brokers & Services Inc. as a wholly-
owned subsidiary
– Started the production of the second phthalic anhydride unit in Pasig

1980’s

1980 – Set up the Integrated Microelectronics Inc (IMI) in joint venture with the Ayala Corporation for the assembly of microchips for the semi-conductors, exports to electronic industries

1981 – Began the productionin Pasig of the hot melt adhesives for the wood and packaging industries
– Started up the 3rd 110 TPD formaldehyde plant in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental

1985 – Established the AVC Chemical Corporation as a majority-owned subsidiary, in joint venture with ISK, to market agricultural pesticides and herbicides for vegetable, pineapple and banana plantations

1988 – Established the Phil-Sea Food Enterprises Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary, to raise and process prawns in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental, for export to Japan and the USA. The plant was closed down in ______
– Established the Pro-Tex products Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary to produce centrifuged rubber latex in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental, and to manufacture latex emination gloves for export in Carmona, Cavite.
– Established Progenerix Inc. (later Progen Pharma Inc.), a majority-owned subsidiary that markets generic drugs.

1989 – Set up Stella Technik Asia Inc., a majority owned subsidiary that manufactured and sold abrasive grinding wheels

1990’s

1990 – Established Pigmentex Inc, a wholly-owned subsidiary that manufactures aluminum paste, calcium sulphate, and toll-manufactures synthetic resins in Carmona, Cavite.

1991 – Set up MC Shipping Corporation as a wholly owned subsidiary of PICMW, to provide charter-hire vessels for the bulk transport of plywood adhesives

1996 – Established RI Chemicals Corp. as a wholly owned subsidiary to assume the manufacturing and marketing activities of Resins Ins, and transform the latter purely into a holding company.

1998 – Established Pacific Resins Inc as a wholly-owned subsidiary to acquire the synthetic resin and trading businesses and assets of Pacific Products Inc

2000’s

2005 – Celebrated 50 years of service to the Philippine industry.

2006 – CTNI was established in April 2006 to operate nurseries for the propagation of seedlings by cloning and other means of seedling production from well-selected stocks of various fast growing tree species.
